Lloyd Wolf, founder of Wolf Consulting
Lloyd Wolf · Founder

Almost every client I visited for a programming job also had computer and network problems.

I knew I had to figure out how to help them.

Where We Started

One of Pittsburgh's
First Managed IT
Providers

Wolf Consulting didn't start as an IT company. It started with a problem worth solving.

In 1989, Lloyd Wolf founded the company with two lines of business under one name: a specialized software for precision cutting machines — a product so well-built it's still in use at companies today — and a networking division helping businesses set up internal computer networks.

The connection between the two was straightforward. Lloyd's software clients kept running into the same issue: they couldn't run precision software without stable, reliable networks. And they didn't have those. Lloyd saw the gap and stepped in — as a programmer, yes, but first as a problem solver.

That insight — that technology only works when the whole environment works — became the foundation of Wolf Consulting.

Process From
Day One

From the earliest days, every task at Wolf had a checklist. Not a rough outline — a real checklist.

It set the tone for a company that would never rely on guesswork. Even as we grew, that discipline of consistency, documentation, and thoroughness remained embedded in the culture. It's still here today.

Key Milestones

Before “MSP”
Was a Category

While most IT companies in the early ’90s and 2000s operated on a break-fix model — call us when something breaks and we’ll bill you by the hour — Wolf was already building monthly partnerships with clients. There was always a managed agreement. Clients paid a monthly fee. Wolf took ownership of their technology.

That made us one of the first managed services providers in the Pittsburgh area. In a market now crowded with providers, that head start has given us decades of accumulated knowledge about how technology shifts affect real businesses.

Today
Milestone 08

Pittsburgh's Leading MSP

Comprehensive managed IT and cybersecurity, multiple service teams, a standardized technology stack, and a process-driven culture that traces directly back to our founding.

From a one-person software shop in 1989 to a multi-team managed IT and cybersecurity provider serving organizations across the country — our story is one of steady, disciplined growth.

We didn’t rush.

We built the right way. And that’s exactly why we’re still here.

The People Behind Wolf

Leadership That Knows the Work — Because They’ve Done It

Our leadership team built this business from the server room to the boardroom. What they share is a commitment to process, a deep respect for client relationships, and a belief that IT should be leverage for your business, not a liability.

Jonathan "JB" Lamb

Jonathan “JB” Lamb

Chief Executive Officer

As CEO, JB sets the strategic direction for Wolf Consulting — ensuring the company continues to grow while staying true to the process-driven, client-first culture that has defined Wolf for over three decades. He brings a clear vision for what Wolf is building: the most valued managed IT partner for growing businesses, anchored in Pittsburgh and trusted well beyond it.

Craig Carr

Craig Carr

Chief Operating Officer

Craig is the longest-tenured member of the Wolf team, joining in 2002 as one of the company’s earliest employees. Before Wolf, he spent nine years at another Pittsburgh MSP and served as a system administrator at an accounting firm. Over more than two decades, Craig has shaped the operational foundation of everything Wolf delivers — from service team structure to onboarding processes to the technical standards every engineer follows.

His deep institutional knowledge means clients never have to start from scratch. Craig knows the history, the context, and the reasoning behind every decision.

The best IT problems are the ones you never have.
William Palmer

William Palmer

Vice President of Growth

Will joined Wolf Consulting in 2017 and has led the company through its most significant growth period. Under his leadership, Wolf has expanded its client base, sharpened its service model, and built deeper capabilities in cybersecurity and strategic IT planning — all while preserving the culture and personal attention that make Wolf different.

His approach to leadership is straightforward: hire experienced people, build transparent partnerships, and hold the organization to a higher standard than the client expects.

People buy on competence, perceived likability, professionalism, legitimacy — and confidence. We didn’t get the job by being fun to golf with. We got it by being really good at what we do.
Susan Duker

Susan Duker

Vice President of Human Resources & Administration

Susan joined Wolf Consulting in 2018 and has held progressively senior roles — from Recruiter and HR Specialist to Director of Human Resources — before stepping into her current position leading all HR and administrative functions. Before Wolf, Susan worked as an HR Consultant and served as Vice President of Human Resources for a local community bank, giving her a deep understanding of the people side of professional services businesses.

In a company where long tenure and deep expertise are competitive advantages, Susan’s focus on hiring the right people and building a workplace worth staying at is central to everything Wolf delivers.

Susan holds a Bachelor’s in English Literature from DePauw University and a Master’s in Human Resources from LaRoche University.

Vicky Johnson

Vicky Johnson

Vice President of Finance

Vicky joined Wolf Consulting in 2023, bringing over 20 years of experience in managerial accounting and consulting. She leads all finance and accounting functions — ensuring the business runs with the same transparency, predictability, and discipline that clients experience in their partnerships. Her work behind the scenes supports Wolf’s ability to deliver fixed-fee clarity, planned budgeting, and the financial stability that allows the team to invest in people, process, and technology year after year.

Vicky holds a BS in Business Administration and Accounting from Oklahoma State University and an MBA from Wichita State University.

What Drives Us

Values We Operate By — Especially When It’s Hard

Our values earn their keep. They’re the decision filters for how we operate when things get difficult, when it would be easier to cut a corner, or when nobody would notice if we skipped a step. They show up in the way we build processes, hire people, and serve clients every day.
